(More customer reviews)I bought this for a 4 year old who loves the Princesses. The box is quite attractive, all glittery and with pictures of the princesses and castles. The box is even pretty sturdy, I don't see it coming apart at the seams too quickly. The wishing wheel spinner is two pieces of plastic that you place on top each other and whirl around. It doesn't come attached to the game board, so you have to put it there before each game and take it off afterwards to fold the board. Not a big deal. The plastic for this wheel is a nice weight, but if someone steps on it or tries to bend it, it won't hold up too well. The playing board itself is very colorful, almost too busy with pictures of castles, trees and stepping stones, sometimes we would lose the die on it because it blended in so well. They give you a white cube for a die and you have to stick 6 stickers on it for the numbers. They are glittery number stickers and not the easiest to read. I wish they had put a nicer border on the game board like is shown on the back picture of the box, but instead it looks like the edges were just cut off and not finished off with a black border. The playing board isn't as thick as the type I am used to, like Monopoly or Clue boards, and mine did not lay perfectly flat, it had the slightest bow in it which did not affect gameplay.
The game has you pick one of four princess figures, which is wisely encased in plastic so the play peice won't get ruined. To play the game you go around the outer perimeter of the board and each time you land on a WISH stepping stone, you spin the plastic wishing wheel. If a wish token on the wheel lands on one of the 5 spots designated for your princess, you get to choose one of the wishes. When you get your three wishes, you then move your character into the inner circle to look for your special birthday gift. Those are designated by 4 cardboard shaped presents that has either an apple for Snow WHite, tiara for Sleeping Beauty, slipper for Cinderella or a rose for Belle. When you find which one belongs to your character, you win. Yahoo. I also wish those cardboard presents were hard plastic or such, because if one gets marked or bent, you will forever know which present goes with it. The instructions are not the clearest, but a few re-reads and trying the game a few times, you will get it. The spinning wishing wheel has its flaws, not terminal, but sometimes annoying. When my 4 year old tries to spin it too hard, the top part will sometimes fly off the board, knocking game peices over and such. It's not the end of the world when that happens, but inevitable. You also cannot roll the dice on the board, which is a nice convenience to have, and if you try you will invariably hit the wheel, a game peice or one of the waiting 'presents' to open.
Happily the game doesn't go on and on, it can be won in 5-10 minutes. Even though I have mentioned a few dings on the game, I really can't say I hate playing it. It is a nice change from Candyland and it will hold up until she grows out of it. When you buy it with the Buy One Get One Free deal going on, you can't complain too much. If your daughter loves the Princesses, I would buy this, they won't notice the little things that we parents do.
